Genioplasty (chin surgery) in Korea - sliding vs implant?
Chin SurgeryI have a recessed chin that makes my profile look unbalanced. I am trying to decide between sliding genioplasty (where they cut and reposition the chin bone) and a chin implant. I know that Korean surgeons are experts in bone surgery, but I am wondering if an implant might be a simpler option with less recovery time. What are the pros and cons of each approach? I am particularly concerned about long-term results and potential complications. Has anyone had either procedure in Korea? Which would you recommend for someone who wants a moderate increase in chin projection?

Both work well; the choice depends on how much projection you need and your priorities. A chin implant (usually silicone/Medpor) is simpler, has shorter recovery, and suits mild-to-moderate horizontal deficiency, but carries small long-term risks of shifting or bone resorption. Sliding genioplasty cuts and advances your own chin bone — it avoids any implant, can correct height and asymmetry as well as projection, and is very stable long-term, at the cost of a more involved recovery. For a moderate increase, an implant is a reasonable, lower-recovery option, while genioplasty is preferred for larger moves or vertical/asymmetry issues. Korean surgeons are skilled in both.
